Wellness & Lifestyle

A community gathering center designed for wellness

Recovery, movement, stillness and connection, all a short walk from your front door.

Tom Staub, CEO of Red Oak Development Group, at his desk with Pinehaven plans

When I thought about Pinehaven and what I wanted it to be, I wanted it to be a place that I loved. A place that I personally will live and with it the things I care most about, starting with health. We have intentionally invested millions of dollars into this concept and I'm very excited to see the impact of this wellness center on our residents.

The Pinehaven wet room with Spanish cedar sauna and cold plunge pool

01

Cold plunge

Cold water immersion triggers a rapid, whole-body response: within seconds, the nervous system releases norepinephrine and dopamine, sharpening focus, elevating mood, and reducing inflammation. Paired with the sauna steps away, it completes true contrast therapy.

Recommended use: 2 to 5 minutes per session at 45 to 55°F. Research suggests roughly 11 total minutes per week, split across 2 to 3 sessions, is enough to activate brown fat and improve metabolic markers (Søberg et al., Cell Reports Medicine, 2021).

The science:

  • Mood and focus. Immersion in 57°F water produces a 200 to 300% increase in plasma norepinephrine, with elevation persisting for hours afterward (Šrámek et al., European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2000). Dopamine rises as well, which explains the alertness and lift people feel after a plunge.
  • Brown fat and metabolism. Repeated cold exposure activates brown adipose tissue, increasing expression of UCP1, the protein that burns calories to generate heat, and improving metabolic flexibility. Søberg's winter swimmer research at the University of Copenhagen is the key source here (Cell Reports Medicine, 2021).
  • Recovery. Cold immersion reduces post-exercise soreness and inflammation. One practical note: if building muscle is the goal, wait 4 to 6 hours after strength training before plunging, since immediate cold can blunt the growth signal (Roberts et al., Journal of Physiology, 2015).

Cold plunge is a wellness amenity, not a medical treatment. Individuals with cardiovascular conditions should consult a physician before use. Every session is private, lasts 45 minutes, and is booked through the lifestyle director on the community app. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

02

Cedar sauna

Spanish cedar was selected for the sauna interior for reasons beyond its beauty. The wood contains natural oils and compounds that actively resist bacteria, mold, and mildew, the primary hygiene challenges in any shared heat-and-humidity environment. Where other woods can harbor microbes in a warm, damp setting, Spanish cedar suppresses their growth naturally, without chemical treatments or sealants that would off-gas in high heat. The result is a sauna that stays cleaner between uses, maintains healthier air quality, and releases a subtle, calming aroma from the same oils that protect it. Every session is private, lasts 45 minutes, and is booked through the lifestyle director on the community app. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
